NASA Juno Space Probe
NASA Juno Space Probe
Juno, a NASA space probe, has been in orbit around the gas giant Jupiter since its arrival on Jul 5, 2016. Launched on Aug 5, 2011, as part of the New Frontiers program, Juno was built by Lockheed Martin and is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Juno's primary mission is to conduct a thorough scientific investigation of Jupiter, aiming to measure various aspects of the planet's composition, gravitational field, magnetic field, and polar magnetosphere. Additionally, Juno seeks to unlock the mysteries of Jupiter's formation, including the presence of a potential rocky core, the amount of water within its deep atmosphere, and the distribution of mass. The spacecraft also studies Jupiter's intense deep winds, which can reach speeds of up to 620 km/h.
Juno's substantial solar panel wings serve both as a power source and a means of stabilizing the spacecraft. Eventually, Juno will be deliberately deorbited into Jupiter's atmosphere to conclude its mission.
